Antigua and Barbuda’s leg for the Glasgow 2014 Queen’s Baton Relay arrived on 21st March, 2014. Her Majesty’s baton along with its accompanying persons was received at the V. C. Bird International Airport in the VIP Lounge by the NOC President, Secretary General, the Governor General, Prime Minister and Minister of Sports.

On Saturday, the Baton was rallied around Antigua by our athletes from various National Federation, sports enthusiasts, cricket legends, ex-service men, schools, community leaders, defense force, police officers, uniform bodies, quads, race cars, Prime Minister Dr the Hon. Winston Baldwin Spencer, ABLP Opposition Leader Hon. Gaston Browne and our very own President Greene. The evening ended at the Government House where Her Excellency Dame Louis Lake-Tack hosted a Welcome Reception for the QBR and created a mini relay of her own.

The BBC crew was most delighted to have gotten the opportunity to interview one of our National Heroes and Cricket Legend, Sir Isaac Alexander Vivian Richards.

Sunday’s event was dedicated to our sister isle Barbuda where the baton saw most of what our little piece of paradise has to offer. The baton was relayed at the Frigate Bird Sanctuary, our pink sandy beaches, climbed caves, on motor bikes and donkeys!

The event began at 6:00 a.m. at Admiral’s Inn on both days.

Look out for our March – April 2014 Newsletter which will provide you with more information on the baton’s passage.
