Antigua and Barbuda Olympic Association’s (ABOA) 2013 Olympic Day celebrations held on Sunday, June 23rd was an overwhelming success. A record number of 1200 participants joined in our celebrations in support of the Olympic Movement and its values as well as to continue with the promotion and implementation of the theme campaign – “Move, Learn and Discover”.

Antiguan and Barbudans from all walks of life from 18 months to over 60 years old were excited to be included in our planned celebrations. National Federations, sport clubs, school groups, fitness groups and even tourists came out in their numbers.

The event started with President E. P. Chet Greene welcoming all followed by prayers, then the singing of the National Anthem and the reading of Dr. Jacques Rogge message.

The walk through the city of St. John’s was led by our Olympians who were very pleased with the recognition and honour bestowed on them during the celebrations. Next in line was our cyclists followed by the rest of the participants.

Refreshments were provided upon return to the secretariat and our Olympic trivia divided into three age categories was once again very well received by the participants who were very excited to win a prize or just to learn more about the Olympic Movement and its values. Participants took time to visit the Anti-Doping tent where Doping Control Officer William Richards sensitized the public about the dangers of doping and the notion of fair play through educational materials.

President Greene presented each Olympian with their Olympic Day certificate and each received an Official NOC gold pin. Olympians present that participated in the first Olympic Games Antigua and Barbuda took park in received a cake.

President Greene, Secretary General Cliff Williams and the Olympians presented certificates and prizes to the other participants.
